Seattle Chainstitch Massacre (SCM) is a small business in Seattle, Washington that rescues discarded and forgotten apparel and accessories that are headed for the landfill and gives them new life. From crewneck sweatshirts to jean jackets, ball caps and denim clothing, almost anything is a blank canvas to us. Using an industrial embroidery machine from the 1930s, SCM uses chainstitch embroidery to add names, words and designs to pieces, immediately increasing their value and uniqueness. Most pieces are small batch or one of one, which makes them highly sought-after by the customers who understand the value of chainstitch embroidery. Even repeated pieces are unique as the embroidery is done by hand (not by modern computerized embroidery), making no two pieces exactly alike.
